I always notice new things when reading the Creation story. This may be adding a modern understanding of the concept of time and matter. Also, this could be irrelevant to the original reading of this text and may have little to nothing to do with the Author’s intent; so caution must be exercised. It looks to me like Day 1 dealt with Substance, something from nothing. Day 2 dealt with Identity, the something was split into distinctive parts. Day 3 introduced Place, there were borders to the specific parts. Day 4, dealt with Time (or motion), “signs and season”, things began to move. Day 5 dealt with Function, that is all of the distinctive stuff began working according to its design. And finally, Day 6 dealt with Agency, that is decision-making. With humanity, it was decisions to reflect God’s likeness, especially regarding caring for Creation.
I know that this thinking is incomplete and ignorant. Who can know all of the thoughts of God when creating and putting a plan into motion. But I love dwelling on what may have been happening.
LORD, You are wonderful, beautiful, and mysterious. I desire to image Your intent for creating me as much as this broken vessel is able. Help me within my many weaknesses. – Amen
Genesis 1:27 – So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
