Neighbors & Animals

Hosea 4

  • Two things interest me in this passage. First, how the LORD lists relational sins in vs. 2. He could have gone after religious or devotional sins, but He seems more upset by how their actions are destroying one another. Second, in vs. 3 the LORD mentions that an effect of Israel’s faithlessness is ecological. Animals, birds, and fish are adversely affected by the selfish cravings of God’s children.

LORD, though I know and am grateful for the salvation You have provided in Jesus, help me not get complacent in sin. Help me to remember the damaging effects of my selfish greed and then flee from it.
