Nehemiah 3:
- This chapter is just a list of contributors to the rebuilding of the Jerusalem wall. However, one observation struck me. In vs. 5 Nehemiah adds commentary to one family, saying, “…but their nobles would not stoop to serve their Lord.” Then add to this indictment that a few verses later he writes, “…Shallum, …ruler of half the district of Jerusalem, repaired, he and his daughters.” (vs. 12)
- This is not how I want things to be written about me. In this case, the reality that the Word of God lasts forever makes it even worse! Forever the nobles f the Tekoites will be known as “those guys!”
- Out of humility and gratitude, will you stoop? If not, because of fear and shame, will you stoop? It is a good thing to be about the Lord’s work.
–> For Your sake, LORD, help me know how to stoop. For the sake of the people You love, teach me to stoop. Shape my heart in such a way that I can stoop gladly.
