Deuteronomy 4:
- Knowing God’s words and doing what His words say are keys to being children of God. (vs. 1) In this will we be seen as wise in the eyes of the peoples/nations. (vs. 6) In this will we ensure long and quality lives for our children and grandchildren and so on. (vs. 9-10, 40) Staying grounded by the Word of God is not a passive thing. For we are bent on straying and forgetting. (vs. 9a) This battle is not merely a battle for understanding and obedience. For vs. 9 says that we must be careful not to let God’s Word “depart from [our] heart[s].” We must not just guard what we know and do, but even more so, we must guard what we love. And here we are warned to love God’s laws.
- God knows our hearts. When we seek God with all our hearts, He promises that He will be found. (vs. 29) Has it ever occurred to you that the distance that you may feel between yourself and God is due to not really desiring to find Him? God is still able to be found! Seek Him with all your heart and soul.
LORD, I want to know You. Help me not allow my heart to be entertained by distractions that keep me far away from You.
